Rudd "Crossroads" Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2019

$85.00

100% Estate and organically grown.

The Crossroads Cabernet Sauvignon from Rudd Oakville Estate is driven by ripe black and red fruits, and a dense tannin profile. Aromatically decadent with red currants, violets, and black licorice, this vintage continues to show off what a great vineyard site can bring in a trying vintage. For a youthful Cabernet Sauvignon, the structured tannin profile is well integrated and balanced by the purity of the brambleberry and plum on the palate. The wine's intensity and strength grow as the wine develops in the glass, always bringing the taster back to the red, rocky soil where the vines grow. Crossroads Cabernet Sauvignon is intended to be appreciated upon release, but will continue to impress over the next few years.

Ratings

95 points, Wine Enthusiast - This wine offers outstanding quality at a fair price, juicy and inviting in raspberry and dark cherry, with approachable structure and enduring grace. Herbal and earthy, it has length and breadth on the palate, with a velvety texture and undoubtable balance, finishing in a bite of dark chocolate. Editors’ Choice

93 points, Wine Spectator - A solid, direct style, with red and black currant preserves that meld steadily into a backdrop of singed vanilla, cedar and warm earth. Features flashes of humus and menthol, too, which provide range. Drink now through 2032.

Tasting Notes

  • fruit forward aromatics, tart raspberry

  • dark cherry

  • roasted herbs

  • dried red earth

  • boysenberries

Food Pairing

  • bbq

  • charcuterie

  • red meats

APPELLATION(S) Napa Valley

PROPRIETORS Rudd Family

FOUNDED 1996

WINEMAKER Natalie Bath

In 1996, food and wine entrepreneur, Leslie Rudd, purchased a 55-acre estate in Oakville, California to pursue his 30-year dream of owning a winery. He expanded the winery caves to a capacity of 20,000 square feet and used the 78,000 tons of stone and bedrock removed during construction to build the stone walls surrounding the property. These recent improvements allow complete temperature and humidity control over different sections of the caves, which gives flexibility in treating each variety uniquely and aids in barrel fermentation when appropriate.

The spectacular 2-acre winery garden was created by Leslie Rudd’s wife, Susan, with the help of noted Canadian landscape designer, Thomas Hobbs. The gardens are anchored by 150-year-old olive trees with gnarled trunks. A glass greenhouse sits at the north end of the garden filled with succulents and two organic vegetable plots that produce a wide variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables for the winery and PRESS Restaurant in St. Helena.

Sadly, Leslie Rudd passed away in May 2018 after a tough battle against cancer. His daughter Samantha now leads the winery.
