Chateau Argadens Bordeaux Superieur Rouge 2017

$25.00

Argadens is 45 hectares of clay-limestone soil in a single plot. Situated on one of the highest hills of the rolling Entre-Deux-Mers wine region (one of the five highest points, in fact, of the Gironde). The vineyard is thus extremely well drained and extremely well exposed to the sun and the air.

The date of harvesting is determined plot by plot, according to how the grapes taste, and picking by hand means that only the best berries are selected. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature controlled 210hl stainless steel vats. Post fermentation maceration and the malolactic fermentation are also done in vat. Once the wines have been pressed (pneumatic press), they are put for 12 to 14 months and racked frequently. Before bottling they are fined and lightly filtered.

The wine is composed of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc.

PROPRIETORS The Sichel family

FOUNDED 2002

WINEMAKER Benjamin Sichel

The Château is located in Saint-André-du-Bois, 60 km south of the city of Bordeaux. It was originally a feudal castle, built in the 12th century and known for four centuries as La Salle d’Argadens. The castle itself is still in existence and was listed as one of the architectural treasures of the region in the 19th century by the Aquitane artist Léo Drouyn. It is one of the last remaining examples of a fortified residence in the region.

In 2002, the Sichel family purchased the property and renamed it Château Argadens, in reference to the noble family that originally built the estate. At this time, a major investment program was launched to restructure the vineyard, increase plantation density, modernize the winery and build an aging cellar. These efforts ensure that the quality of the terroir is expressed in full through the greatest precision and care.
